This is a photo of tumblr when it first started, as well as its html code.
These photos show that even back when it was first created, tumblr had a good start on their website. But as you can see in these next photos, much has changed in the past years.
The sleek design and modern finish of the new and improved website has billions of people crawling to its login. As you can see in the html, there is much more "style" and "class" typed in. (written out, and literally.) Not only did they change the background, but they improved the website by creating the login on only one page; therefor keeping the viewer from going tab to tab trying to find the main page again.
Youtube-
Here are some images of youtube when it first began.
Most similarly to tumblr, youtube had a good start and even kept its logo intact. The majority of the difference was that it became more modern, sleek, and easy to manage.
Here are some more recent photos of the famous webpage-
As you can see, they now advertise the videos and give you the option of creating an account, rather than forcing you to do so. In the html, you can see the script and classes are a little different. And just because it may look better now, doesn't mean the html differences are huge. Actually, most of it looks quite the same. I would say the biggest difference in the html would have to be the quantity of images and buttons placed into the home page.
Pinterest-
This is definitely my favorite one.
As you can tell, there isn't much of a difference between the html picture and the website itself. It had close to no style sheets and certainly no organization. Im not even quite sure they bothered to change the color of the links!
Alright. This is a little bit better, don't you think? Theres good balance, nice colors, and it all seems very simple. Pinterest, as well as these other websites, have come a very long way to be where they are. The html coding in this one might seem very similar at first, but then you'll realize there aren't any random dashes in the new one! I suppose they probably figured out how to work dreamweaver after a few years. Whatever the case, all of these websites are new, modern, and show that web designers everywhere are constantly learning and changing according to the society and how its advanced.
Way Back Machine-
personally, i think this website is very cool and showed me a lot of neat things. Because of my age, i was very young when most of the internet and computers became a big thing and its funny to see how things were even when i didn't appreciate it as much as i do now.
